Shirley Genah, PhD

Bio

Dr. Shirley Genah is a molecular biologist graduated at the University of Rome “La Sapienza” in 2017 with a Master's degree in Genetics and Molecular biology Applied to Biomedical Research. In October 2018, Shirley joined a sponsored PhD program in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Siena: her research project was conducted in the laboratory of Angiogenesis, Pharmacogenetics and Pharmacogenomics under the supervision of Prof. Lucia Morbidelli. Over these three years she was engaged in several research projects that can be grouped into three main macro-areas:

  • Preclinical characterization of synthetic and natural compounds in the modulation of vascular functions and angiogenesis in physiopathological conditions (e.g. high glucose-induced endothelial dysfunction);
  • Assessment of drug safety in vitro and compound biocompatibility on human cells;
  • Modulation of endothelial-stromal crosstalk in the context of wound healing, in response to physical and pharmacological stimuli.
Shirley's full PhD dissertation is available at the following link:  http://hdl.handle.net/11365/1204012

In March 2022, Shirley joined Dr. Enrico Velardi’s laboratory where she aims at identifying novel thymic boosting pharmacological approaches and to study the impact of the identified drugs on thymic recovery in preclinical mouse models of immunological injuries.
