Dr.Enrico Velardi Laboratory studies the biological mechanisms underlying the decline and the recovery of the primary lymphoid organs, thymus and bone marrow, with the ultimate goal of using this knowledge to identify therapeutic approaches that can promote the regeneration of the immune system in immunocompromised patients.
Our primary interests are:
(1) Study the lympho-stroma crosstalk to identify novel pathways/molecules that can promote thymic recovery and enhance T cell output;
(2) Evaluate immune reconstitution in patients receiving immunotherapies to identify prognostic markers influencing clinical outcome;
(3) Identify the impact of hormones on the hematopoietic system;
(4) Assess thymic function in several clinical conditions (including solid tumors, hematological disorders, infection diseases) and study its correlation with patient response to therapy
